TF2 Heavy update drops August 19
TF2 Heavy update drops August 19-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 10:24 PM

While aseptically diabolic puzzler Portal emerged as the standout product of Valve's highly acclaimed The Orange Box, the developer has perhaps most vigorously supported the hyperbolic multiplayer-online shooter Team Fortress 2. In addition to free game updates and new maps, Valve has steadily rolled out overhauls to each of the game's nine classes, thus far adding unique achievements and unlockable weapon upgrades for the Medic and Pyro.

Valve's next target is its Russian-born, chaingun-wielding Heavy, better known as the subject of one of the first promo trailers of the game, "Meet the Heavy." Today, Valve said that the free update to the Heavy class will be pushed out on August 19.

In addition to adding 35 achievements and three new weapons to the Heavy, next Tuesday's update will contain a new game mode that contains five arenas, a new map for the Payload gametype, and a community-made map, cp_steel. Valve plans to gradually reveal more details on the update leading up to its release through the game's Web site. To promote the new features, the developer also said that it will host another free play weekend promotion, which will kick off August 22.

The Orange Box--which contains the aforementioned Portal and Team Fortress 2, as well as Half-Life 2 and its first two episodes--is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
