Over 9 years after the release of Test Drive Unlimited 2, a third game in the sub-series has been revealed. Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown was revealed during the Nacon Connect stream, showing us a brief glimpse of some updated car models.
Details are thin in the trailer, which does not reveal which systems the game is coming to or show any in-game footage, but a press release sent to GameSpot reveals a few more details. The game is being developed by KT Racing, the studio behind the WRC series (WRC 8 being one of July's Games With Gold freebies). Racing specialist Alain Jarniou is heading the team.
The game will, like previous entries in the series, be set on a "luxurious island" built to 1:1 scale, and the focus will be on making beautiful cars fun to drive. The Solar Crown in the game's title is the name of the competition you'll be entering, which will have "mysterious stakes," apparently. Winning will involve making a name for yourself across the island.
That's all we have to go on for now--hopefully more will be revealed soon.
It's been a long time since we heard from the Test Drive franchise, which was auctioned in 2013 after the developer of the first two games in the Unlimited series, Eden Games, was closed.
