Terminator 6 Release Moves Forward, Following Wonder Woman 1984 Date Shift-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 4:23 AM

When a big movie changes release date, it often means a reshuffling of other films, as rival studios look to take advantage of empty release slots and a sudden lack of competition. It was reported this week that the upcoming DC sequel Wonder Woman 1984 has moved back seven months from November 2019 to June 2020. This has now resulted in Terminator 6 shifting into its previous slot.

The currently-untitled Terminator 6 will now open in the US on November 1, 2019. While this date change isn't as dramatic as the one for Wonder Woman 1984, it does mean that fans will get to see the movie two weeks earlier that its previous date of November 15. The move also means that Terminator 6 will now open on the same day as the reboot of Charlie's Angels, which will be directed by Elizabeth Banks and star Kristen Stewart.

Terminator 6 is directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller, with series creator James Cameron producing. Original stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are also coming back, and the movie is reportedly a direct sequel to 1991's classic Terminator 2 and will ignore the three movies in between. In August, the first official image was released, which showed Hamilton alongside new stars Natalia Reyes and Blade Runner 2049's Mackenzie Davis.

Last year, Cameron spoke about the decision to bring Hamilton back. "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it's going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she's become return," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

As for Wonder Woman 1984, it will now hit theaters on June 5, 2020. The news was first revealed by star Gal Gadot, and subsequently confirmed by Warner. "We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did," said Jeff Goldstein, Warner's president of domestic distribution, in a statement to GameSpot. "This move lands the film exactly where it belongs."
