In Japan, Bandai announced that the Tamagotchi has sold over 10 million copies domestically - and the keychains are still selling strongly. The Tamagotchi also has continued to sell well in the US, where the game has stiff competition from Tiger's Giga Pets and Playmates' Nano Pets.
Bandai debuted a Game Boy version of the game in Japan at the end of June that was met with wild success. Already a PlayStation and Nintendo 64 version of the game have been planned.
The company expects sales of the Tamagotchi to reach 20 million by the end of the next fiscal year.
Bandai will debut its Angel Tamagotchi in Japan on August 10. The Game Boy and CD-ROM versions of the game will debut in the US this fall.
