Tekken fans unite - a Tekken 8 playtest might very well be inbound as a playtest for the upcoming fighter has been spotted on Steam.

　　The playtest reference on SteamDB was spotted by deals watcher Wario 64 on Twitter just now. A screenshot of the "beta" on SteamDB has been included below. The record surfaced earlier today and is named "TEKKEN 8 Playtest". No further details about this possible playtest have been revealed just yet, but it could be that this test is related to the Summer Game Fest event next month (as covered earlier, the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive a playtest during the event).

　　Last month, it was confirmed that Tekken 8 will support full crossplay between PC and consoles.

　　Tekken 8 was announced back in 2018, but the game has yet to receive an official release date. As can be read in our preview of the game, however, it's unlikely that the highly-anticipated fighting title will be released soon.

　　"Another focus that Harada and Murray wanted to showcase was the evolution of bringing Tekken not just to the next generation of consoles but also to the next major release of Unreal Engine", we wrote back in March of this year. "While the 7th mainline title was known for being a looker in Unreal Engine 4, Tekken 8 is looking to boost that to the next level with support for Unreal Engine 5. Whether that means support for more modern technologies such as ray tracing and global illumination is still yet to be discussed, as our roundtable interview where I asked such questions was met with non-committal responses, just the same as when asked if Tekken 8 would represent the end of the Mishima arc was similarly met with an unwillingness to share finer details this early into the preview period."

　　Tekken 8 will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
