Bandai Namco is looking for feedback from its fans in the Middle East about a new Arab character that might be added to the recently announced Tekken 7.
The character doesn't have a name yet, but as you can see in the image above, wears a keffiyeh, a white shirt, and has a sword, dagger, and throwing knives on a leather belt. The weapons make him look a little like Altaïr, the protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed.
Tekken Game Director and Chief Producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the team has had an idea for an Arab character since 2008, but that since most of the team is Japanese and didn't know much about Middle Eastern culture or clothes, it wasn't able to complete a design. Harada has visited places like Dubai and Saudi Arabia in recent years, and that's how they came up with this character's outfit.
"If the Tekken fan community, especially those in the Middle Eastern area, end up liking this character, I would like to feature this character in the game," Harada said in a post to the game's Facebook page. "On the other hand, if this character is not received well by the Middle Eastern Tekken fan community members, there is a possibility that the character will be considerably changed or letting go of the idea of featuring this character in the game."
Bandai Namco announced Tekken 7 at the EVO 2014 fighting game event last month. At this point, we don't know when the game will release or on what platforms, only that it will be powered by Unreal Engine 4.
