Tecmo springs Trapt
Tecmo springs Trapt-November 2024
Nov 5, 2024 3:36 AM

Tecmo knows the sadistic thrill of lying in wait while some unsuspecting chump walks right into an elaborately deadly trap. That thrill was at the heart of three Deception games on the original PlayStation, and the company is looking to bring it back with today's announcement that the latest game in the series, Trapt, has shipped to retailers for the PlayStation 2.

In Trapt, players assume the role of Allura, a princess framed for the murder of her father, the king. As she evades capture, Allura discovers that she has been possessed by a demon known as The Fiend, and now she has the ability to set and trigger a variety of deadly traps. This power comes in handy when a steady stream of knights and warriors show up with intentions of bringing the fugitive princess to justice.

As players progress through the game, they gain access to a growing array of traps, some of which are embedded in rooms, while others are carried with Allura for use in a pinch. There are even incredibly convoluted Dark Illusion traps, which will dispatch of enemies with a flourish worthy of the Adam West Batman TV show, only more effective. The game can be played through in a story mode, with optional side missions and multiple endings, or in a timed survival mode.

Trapt is rated M for Mature and retails for $49.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's full review.
