Talk Show Legend Larry King Dies At 87-January 2024
Jan 15, 2025 6:48 PM

Talk show host Larry King, whose career spanned several decades and included a number of cameo appearances as himself in movies and TV shows, has died at 87. King had been treated for COVID-19 and had previously been in the ICU.

"For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television, and digital media, Larry's many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster," said Ora Media in a post on King's Twitter. "Additionally, while it was his name appearing in the shows' titles, Larry always viewed his interview subjects as the true stars of his programs, and himself as merely an unbiased conduit between the guest and the audience."

King didn't take himself seriously in interviews, leading to some pretty hilarious moments when his guests were allowed to steer the conversation. For example, Ben Schwartz spoke to him about the then-upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film, prompting King to attempt a hedgehog voice that he thought would fit the movie. It doesn't exactly sound like Sonic the Hedgehog. However, that doesn't mean it isn't incredible.

Larry King: Hedgehogs are interesting though, aren't they?

Alongside his hosting, King also made appearances in dozens of films and television shows, usually playing himself. This included a role in the original Ghostbusters, Shrek 2, WWE Raw, and Enemy of the State.
