Major toy company and video game publisher Takara has announced that it will be acquiring Broccoli Inc., a company known for its game merchandise chain stores. The two companies have worked together on various projects related to Takara's toys, anime, and games, such as the popular Beyblade series.
Takara plans to acquire 10,000 shares of Broccoli stock by October and will make Broccoli one of its subsidiaries during its next fiscal year, beginning March 2004. By working together, the two companies plan to reinforce their worldwide market position, creating new characters and products and strengthening their businesses.
Broccoli was founded in 1994 and established a nationwide chain in Japan called Gamers, which specializes in video game-related merchandise. The company was first listed on the JASDAQ in 2001 and opened its American subsidiary, Broccoli International USA, in 2002. Broccoli is also known for a number of its original character brands that have been released as games and anime, such as Digi Charat and Galaxy Angel.
