Mirroring announcements of PS2 karaoke games by Konami, Datel, and Sony Computer Entertainment, Japanese developer Taito and Finnish handset maker Nokia recently announced a deal to bring a karaoke application to Nokia's 3300 model GSM network-compatible mobile phones and to distribute karaoke contents online.
Various content providers can begin creating application data using Taito's Sequential Display Object Format authoring tool this fall.
Reportedly, this initiative targets China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and surrounding Asian territories. There has been no mention of similar applications in development for the Nokia N-Gage, which is scheduled to launch worldwide on October 7, 2003; however, Nokia announced in February 2003 that Taito would provide the N-Gage handheld with versions of the classic games Space Invaders and Puzzle Bobble.
