Tabata: Final Fantasy XV Won’t Require 170 GB or GTX 1080 Ti on PC
Tabata: Final Fantasy XV Won’t Require 170 GB or GTX 1080 Ti on PC-September 2024
Sep 19, 2024 8:51 PM

After announcing Final Fantasy XV for PC, many players began to criticize the 170GB needed to install the title. Hajime Tabata, director of the game, clarified the situation by mentioning to Kotaku that everything was a misunderstanding.

Thus, Tabata explained that the figure of 170 GB was an error in the press release of Square Enix. Another erroneous fact is that you do not need a GTX 1080 Ti to run the game on PC.

"That was a mistake, actually," said Tabata. "That was a communications mistake - something got put in a memo that really shouldn't have. What that is [the specifications that went out to press] based on the specs that we're running the demo on today."

"Again, the final specs for the release version haven't been fixed yet. There's a very good chance they can change," he continued. "Someone put that in there and it got reported as the recommended specs, but that's not the final fixed version. The fact that it became that number is a communication [error]."

Thus, Tabata explained that the demo ran at 4K using a GTX 1080 Ti card, but the minimum specifications will fall, at least, at the same level as the console version. "But we've not fixed the frame rate at 30 frames at all - it's just on the 1080 Ti, that's the maximum that one can do [at 4K], so that's what it's doing at the moment."

For now, players will have to keep waiting for the precise technical specifications. It is clear that the GTX 1080 Ti of $1000 USD is only necessary for those who want to play Final Fantasy XV in 4K.

The Windows edition of Final Fantasy XV will debut on PC in early 2018. In addition, there will be a new version of the game called Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, exclusively for mobile devices on Android and iOS.
