Tabata: After FFXV We Have a Solid Production Base; With This Experience We Can Do Even Better Games-October 2024
Oct 20, 2024 3:54 AM

Just last week, after a flurry of rumors Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XV had been delayed for about two months, being now scheduled for November 29th on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Here's what Game Director Tabata said at the time:

We understand well that there are so many people out there who are looking forward to the release of FFXV every day. We are incredibly sorry for having to keep all of you waiting another two months and I apologize sincerely.

However, after these two months we will deliver FINAL FANTASY XV in the best possible state it can be, to players who have bought the game from all around the world. So I would be grateful if you could continue to be patient and look forward to the 29th of November.

In an interview just published by Vice Gaming, Tabata explained how working on Final Fantasy XV for so long will lead to better games in the franchise's future.

I've learned a lot from making this game. And it's worth saying that through the process of making XV, we now have a solid production base, which represents groundwork for the future. I have so many expectations for what we can do now, with the experience we have; I think we can move forward as a team and make even better games.

What taught me a lot, though, was the global strategy for this game. This whole thing, like what we're doing now, with me going abroad before the game is finished, talking to people while the game is still in development, that's something that I never really did before. I don't think that we, as the Final Fantasy studio, ever really did this before.

It would certainly be nice if this experience allowed Square Enix to create better games; hopefully the process will be a little quicker, too.

Our Francesco recently got the chance to try a new portion of Final Fantasy XV at Gamescom 2016 and enjoyed it quite a lot; in fact, the game received our Best RPG award.
