Super Mario RPG is Getting a Full HD Polygonal Remake and it Looks Adorable-October 2024
Oct 26, 2024 3:14 AM

Over the last few days, rumors emerged that Nintendo had a remake of a beloved SNES classic in the works, with speculation turning toward Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars as a likely culprit. Well, it turns out the rumors were right on the money, as today during the most recent Nintendo Direct an HD remake of the SNES game was announced.

The new Super Mario RPG is getting a full visual makeover, with HD polygonal graphics. Everything looks very crisp and downright adorable, as Nintendo is retaining the cute squat look of the original game’s characters. Beyond the visual upgrade, this appears to be Super Mario RPG as you remember it, complete with turn-based battles and traditional RPG mechanics. You can check out the debut trailer for the SMRPG remake, below.

Again, looks quite faithful to the original Super Mario RPG, which certainly isn’t a bad thing. The game holds up better than almost anything from the 16-bit era. This remake should be particularly refreshing for those who haven’t been happy with the direction the Paper Mario series has gone lately. The only thing missing is any info about who might be developing this remake. Is it Square Enix? Nintendo itself? Somebody else? Hopefully, we get some details soon. Here’s an official description for the SMRPG remake…

“Super Mario RPG: Originally only released in Japan and North America on Super NES,  the game has been overhauled with new graphics. Join Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and original characters Mallow and Geno, in an RPG filled with twists, turns and treasure. Mario must team up with his allies to face down a menacing force known as The Smithy Gang in order to recover seven stars and repair the Star Road. Whether you played the original game or have yet to take the journey, you can dive into this Nintendo Switch version of the very first RPG in the Super Mario series.”

Super Mario RPG launches on Nintendo Switch on November 17. What do you think? Like the game’s new look? Ready to experience this classic again (or for the first time)?
