Super Mario Movie’s Post-Credits Scene Teases a Sequel, Luigi’s Mansion Endorsed by Cast-October 2024

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hasn’t even launched yet, but everything’s pointing toward it being a big success, and the flick’s star is already hinting at a sequel. In an interview with CBF, Mario voice actor Chris Pratt teases the movie will have a sequel-teasing post-credits sequence. Interestingly, Pratt also name-drops Luigi’s Mansion when discussing a follow-up.

"Listen, there's like, at the end of the film, there's a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited. But there's been talk of Luigi's Mansion. That was a Gamecube game. I think that would be great."

It’s unclear if the “talk of Luigi’s Mansion” is official talk, or just chatter amongst fans, but the new Luigi voice actor Charlie Day is definitely all-in on busting some ghosts.

“Yes, I do. Big time. You’re not the first [to ask about Luigi’s Mansion] but let’s get that out in the zeitgeist. Let’s make this happen, okay? I am in.”

While I don’t necessarily see a Luigi’s Mansion move being the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, in a world where an entire Mario cinematic universe is formed (which I could definitely see happening), then why not? As long as we also get a Wario movie.

The stars of the Mario movie have been making the rounds, with Pratt also addressing some of the backlash to him being cast as the plumber. Pratt rolls with the punches, simply describing the Nintendo fanbase as “passionate,” which is… one term you could use. Pratt isn’t exactly new to dealing with nerd fanbases or backlash, so I doubt he’s sweating any of this too much. If the fans start to get him down, he can just console himself with his many piles of cash.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters on April 5 in North America, and April 7 in Europe and the rest of the world. What do you think? Will you be buying a ticket? And if the movie is a success, where would you like to see the Mario movie franchise head next?
