Subnautica Runs at 1440P on Both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, No Differences Between the Platforms-December 2024
Dec 28, 2024 1:33 PM

Subnautica, the open world adventure game set underwater, is now about to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (where an early access build has been available for some time via Game Preview).

The game will launch physically and digitally on December 4th as announced recently, priced at $29.99. Unknown World has partnered with Panic Button and Gearbox Publishing to port the game on consoles.

We were able to contact Adam Creighton, Studio General Manager and Director of Development at Panic Button, who confirmed to Wccftech that the game will run at 1440p (2560x1440) resolution on both PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X with no other differences between the two platforms.

There are not really enhanced graphics outside of the higher resolution for those two platforms – our focus was getting the game up and performant across both versions of both platforms, tying into each platforms' services, a more refined controller integration, and other console-y things.

Subnautica launched on PC in early 2018 and Francesco had significant for praise for it in his review of the game.

At the end of the day, it’s somewhat difficult to put into words the variety of feelings a game like Subnautica can evoke. Fear of the unknown, excitement for the discovery, curiosity, thrill of battle are all mixed together to offer an experience that’s unlike any other offered by survival games. Some things could have been better, but it’s only minor stuff that doesn’t damage the experience in a meaningful way. Whether you’re a fan of survival games or just someone looking for something different, Subnautica is the game for you.

It is one of the best survival games released in recent years, and one of the best indie games released at the beginning of 2018. With an interesting story, a variety of play modes that can tone down and completely remove survival elements and plenty of freedom in how to proceed, Subnautica is a game that can also be enjoyed by those who aren't particularly fond of the genre.

An expansion titled Below Zero is expected to launch on Steam Early Access in early 2019. You may follow this project's roadmap here.
