Street Fighter 6 World Tour Mode Is Meant To Make Players Fall In Love With The Series Even More
Street Fighter 6 World Tour Mode Is Meant To Make Players Fall In Love With The Series Even More-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 8:44 AM

While select players had the chance to try out some of the Street Fighter 6 online modes last year thanks to two rounds of closed beta testing, no one was able to try out the game's offline and single-player modes. Among them, the most interesting is World Tour mode, which is setting out to be one of the most ambitious single-player modes for fighting games ever made.

In the Street Fighter V Climax Arts art book released recently in Japan, Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto commented on features and characters of the next entry in the series, as translated by Scotia. According to Takayuki Nakayama, the concept behind World Tour mode is to make fans fall in love with the Street Fighter universe even more. By playing this mode, newcomers will be able to learn not only about basic mechanics such as command inputs and how to play the game but also about characters' individual stories.

...know how to do command inputs and know what kind of person Chun-Li is. In addition to the 'core story' they've included detailed episodes "big and small" that feature many stories such as Chun-Li formerly being an ICPO officer or learning what foods characters like.

Interestingly enough, it seems like the Street Fighter 6 developer has post-launch plans for World Tour Mode, as Takayuki Nakayama stated that post-launch characters will also appear in the single-player mode so as to avoid a situation similar to the inclusion of Yun and Yang in Street Fighter IV where they were the only characters with arcade mode cutscenes. Additionally, completing World Tour will not be the end, as the developer has plans to add more things after release.

Nakayama mentions how when Yun and Yang were added to SF4, they were the only characters without any arcade cutscenes. He felt that was unfortunate and, to avoid such a situation again, is planning to make sure additional characters will have their own 'standing' in World Tour.

They say that even if you play through all of World Tour mode 'it is not the end' as they have plans to add 'various things'.

In the new book, the Street Fighter 6 developers also commented on the character roster. As expected, the original eight World Warriors were included to appeal to those who haven't played any entry in the series in a long time. Dee Jay was also brought back as his country wasn't represented already in the sixth entry in the series and wasn't brought back for Street Fighter V.

As expected, the eight World Warriors are back as a way to appeal to those who played SF2 but hadn't played SF in a long time.

They also brought back Dee Jay because he was from a country they wasn't represented already (in 6) and because he had been gone for a long time.

With Street Fighter 6 being only three months away and with the launch character roster now fully revealed, we will likely learn more about World Tour Mode in the future. So far, the game is shaping up to be an excellent fighting game and one of the best entries in the series, as I highlighted in my closed beta hands-on previews.

Street Fighter 6 launches on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on June 2nd worldwide. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
