Street Fighter 6 – Five Tips To Get Started
Street Fighter 6 – Five Tips To Get Started-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 3:36 PM

While Street Fighter 6 is a much more accessible game than its predecessors, newcomers can still feel overwhelmed by the amount of mechanics and terms the game throws at you as soon as you begin your first match. Thankfully, the game provides plenty of tools to learn the game at your own pace, and with the following tips, you will lay a strong foundation that will allow you to climb the rankings and not get stuck in Bronze hell.

Play World Tour Mode

If Street Fighter 6 is the first entry in the series you are playing, or if you have only played Street Fighter II back in the day and haven't touched the series since, the first thing you should do is play World Tour mode. While this mode doesn't allow you to use any of the 18 main characters, World Tour mode is an excellent way to learn about the basics of the Street Fighter experience and the unique mechanics introduced in the sixth entry in the series. As you make your way through this mode's story, mechanics will be unlocked gradually, giving you ample time to get used to them before something new gets introduced. Additionally, playing side missions such as the Learnin' in the City, Danger City Seminar, and the Sun Drenched Symposium series will help you better understand the nuances of the game's mechanics and apply them in some rewarding tutorials.

Watch the Character Guides And Complete Combo Trials

After you have played World Tour mode, and got a better hang of the Street Fighter 6's basics, you can focus on the characters you would like to play in the competitive modes. No matter if you're a veteran of the series or a newcomer, you will want to watch the Character Guides, as they provide some rather in-depth information about characters' basic game plans and special moves. As all returning characters' fighting styles received some significant updates, you will want to learn more about them even if you played a character in every entry in the series. After you are done watching the Character Guide for any character, take some time to complete some of the Combo Trials, as they provide you some guidance on how to combo normals with special moves and Super Arts, wall splat combos, and so on.

Have the CPU Have At It At Level 8

The AI in fighting games is usually pretty bad, as it can do things that a regular human player cannot do(I am looking at you, Street Fighter II's Guile with your chargeless Sonic Booms) while also reading the player's inputs. While the AI in Street Fighter 6 still reads inputs, reacting to Drive Impacts, making daring Perfect Parries, and teching throws the vast majority of the time, it plays more like a regular player would, making playing against Level 7 and Level 8 CPU opponents very good training. If you want to learn more about a character or a specific match-up, you can also use Versus Mode to pit two Level 8 CPU players against one another. You will be surprised at how much you can learn from these matches.

Don't Be Afraid To Play Ranked Mode

Now that you have learned about the basics of Street Fighter 6 and have started learning your characters, it is time to face other opponents in the online multiplayer modes. While Battle Hub may feel less stressful than Ranked Mode, as your standing in the rankings won't be impacted by any of your losses, playing Ranked Mode should be preferred, especially if you are still learning the game. While the Placement Matches may not go too well, as you will be pitted against a bigger pool of players, once you are assigned your rank, you will be matched against players of your same skill level. In Battle Hub, there's no such matchmaking system, and you may end up fighting against an expert player that will dust the floor with you. Success is built on failure, true, but no one likes going 10-0 against a random player, so use Ranked Mode to play against players of your same skill level for a fairer and ultimately more rewarding experience.

Rewatch Your Matches

Fighting games are unique among multiplayer games, as any loss is on you alone and not on the mistake of any of your teammates. As such, it is vital to understand why you have lost, and the best way to do so is to watch replays of matches you have lost. Street Fighter 6 allows you to save plenty of replays, so use this feature to analyze your matches, note where you may be lacking, and use the Training Mode's excellent features to improve your gameplay and become a better Street Fighter. The answer, after all, lies in the heart of battle.
