Street Fighter 6 Comparison Video Shows Solid Performance & Visuals in Arcade Mode But Setbacks in World Tour-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 8:39 AM

Capcom released a demo for the upcoming Street Fighter 6 last month, and we now have a comparison video, showing the demo running on the different consoles.

The demo was released for the past-gen and current-gen consoles late last month, featuring the game's known arcade mode and all-new story world-tour mode. Eurogamer's Digital Foundry put the demo on its testing bench on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. So how do these different versions compare to each other in the different game modes running in Capcom's own proprietary RE Engine, and how does the game (the demo, at least) look and perform on said platforms? Well, going by this analysis, pretty good across the board although there are some setbacks in the game's new world-tour mode.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Street Fighter runs in 4K resolution at 60FPS in arcade mode. The base PlayStation 4 version runs in 1080p resolution, whereas the PS4 Pro is able to run the game in 1440p. While there are two visual modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X (performance and resolution mode), the Series S doesn't have this luxury and players can't pick between performance or resolution - it's native 1080p at 60FPS with visual settings similar to those of the PlayStation 4 Pro version (think lower textures, lower quality screen-space reflections, and reduced foliage density). As expected, the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions benefit from additional details, textures, shading, depth of field, and higher-quality reflections, but in general, the past-gen consoles hold up pretty great in arcade mode.

The game's new story world-tour mode, however, appears to be a different beast with visible pop-in on PS4 systems as well as frame rate drops. Also, in resolution mode on the Series X and PS5, the FPS is capped at 30FPS during random battles in world-tour mode. As mentioned by Digital Foundry, a resolution would be to switch to performance mode on the current-gen consoles as this would lower the resolution to 1440p, but framerates are at 60FPS during random battles. On PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, random battles in world-tour mode also run at 30FPS, while roaming produces (unlocked) framerates between 30-50FPS. Interestingly, the Series S version appears to be able to produce a fairly stable 60FPS in 1080p during roaming and random battles in world-tour mode.

We've included the demo analysis down below for you to check out:

Street Fighter 6 launches next month on June 2 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. An open beta will take place later this month from May 19 through May 21.
