Steven Spielberg's Halo TV Show in "Very Active Development"-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 8:27 PM

Although Microsoft has not said anything about it in some time, the upcoming Halo TV show produced by veteran film director Steven Spielberg remains in "very active development."

In May 2014, it was reported that Microsoft was in "deep negotiations" with premium cable channel Showtime for the show. Now, that link has apparently been confirmed, as Showtime president David Nevins confirmed that the program has found a home at his network.

"It's still in development," Nevins told IGN about the Halo TV show. "Still in very active development."

Asked if fans could expect more details about the show soon, Nevins laughed and said, "No time soon."

The Halo TV show was at one time expected to debut in fall 2015 alongside Halo 5: Guardians, but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen. It's unclear exactly what's holding the project up, but it's not uncommon for Hollywood productions to take a long time to come to fruition.

The Halo show was announced in May 2013 as part of the Xbox One reveal event. We still don't know much about it, but Microsoft's Phil Spencer has said before that the show won't just be "filler."

After production house Xbox Entertainment Studios shut down last year, the fate of the project was called into question. But Microsoft quickly stepped in to say the show would not be affected.

Before that, reports suggested that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp may direct the pilot.

Although Spielberg's Halo TV show may not be here anytime soon, fans can look forward to Halo: The Fall of Reach, an animated series set to launch this fall with Halo 5.

Disclosure: Showtime is owned by GameSpot parent company CBS.
