The latest beta of Valve's Linux-based operating system SteamOS adds support for AMD graphics cards, the company has announced.
The specific version of AMD's Catalyst graphics card driver is 13.11 Beta 9.9, according to the update notes. Possible bugs with this version of SteamOS, which is very much in beta state right now, include "tearing and poor overlay performance in-game," according to Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffais.
SteamOS has also recently been updated to include support for Intel graphics chips. Previously, the upcoming OS only supported Nvidia graphics cards.
Valve's living-room-focused Steam Machines include SteamOS out of the box, and Valve has debuted the initial range of third-party machines this week during tech trade show CES 2014. For more information on the current crop of Steam Machines, check out GameSpot's roundup.
SteamOS is still in development, and while it's free to download and install, it's not recommended for any PC owner who lacks in confidence.
