Video card manufacturer STB Systems announced that it is expecting about a 30 percent shortfall in earnings for the second quarter, down from an estimated US$72 million.
A number of reasons were blamed for the shortfall: pricing pressure on STB's Velocity 128 from a competitor, a rescheduling of a workstation product, and a delay in releasing the Black Magic Voodoo2, a new 3D accelerator based on 3Dfx's Voodoo 2 chipset.
STB says it will not receive its orders for the Black Magic Voodoo2 until mid-May, so it may be quite a few more weeks before it is available in stores.
