Just a few days after PureDark released his Starfield DLSS 3 mod, LukeFZ (the modder behind the FSR2toDLSS bridge) also shared a DLSS Frame Generation mod of his own on Nexus Mods.
Unlike PureDark's mod, which requires you to subscribe to the modder's Patreon, this Starfield DLSS 3 mod is completely free. Of course, those willing can still support LukeFZ on his recently created Patreon page if they want to.
The mod works very differently from PureDark's. While that version includes ReShade to attach itself to the game, this one uses third-party libraries like NVIDIA Streamline, Ultimate ASI Loader, and MinHook.
Here's the installation process as outlined by LukeFZ:
Download the release corresponding to your game version (Steam or Xbox/Microsoft Store)
Extract it into the game directory. (FSR2Streamline.asi, along with the other files/folders from the .zip file, should be next to Starfield.exe)Download both the latest DLSS and DLSS-FG DLLs and place them in the 'streamline' folder in the game directory.Launch the game. The downside of this Starfield DLSS 3 mod compared to PureDark's is that there's no separate menu to tweak its parameters. As such, to do any sort of advanced configuration, you'll have to start the game once and then manually modify the config.json file. It shouldn't really be needed, anyway. You just have to ensure FSR 2 is activated in the game's settings. The render scale slider will determine the quality mode used.
Enabling DLSS Frame Generation in Starfield can greatly improve frame rates in certain situations. However, just like PureDark's mod, this one also suffers from continuous crashing whenever loading or switching to a menu. It's a known issue that affects several people at random, myself included. Hopefully, a fix will be eventually found.
