StarCraft II player Snute to sign with TeamLiquid-November 2024
Nov 17, 2024 7:29 PM

Norwegian StarCraft II player Jens "Snute" Aasgaard is expected to sign with Team Liquid for 2013, executives of several teams have told GameSpot.

The 22-year-old Zerg player has elected not to re-sign with his current team--Norway-based organization GamersLeague--after being courted by several teams with his impressive year-end performances.

After a rather rough start for the first three-quarters of 2012, Snute came out swinging at the DreamHack Winter Championships, knocking out Evil Geniuses' Ilyes "Stephano" Satouri and getting to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual champion Song "Hero" Hyeon Deok. Snute continued his run at the fifth IGN ProLeague event in Las Vegas, tying with Canada's Chris "Huk" Loranger and China's Lei "XiGua" Wang as the highest-placing non-Korean player.

Snute's biggest triumph didn't come until the very last event of the year, where he earned his first major StarCraft II championship at the sixth edition of the HomeStoryCup in Krefeld, Germany. Snute's dominating run saw him never lose a match, beating players such as Jang "MC" Min Chul, Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen, and Stephano once again along the way. He would end things with a clean sweep of Korean Zerg Kang "Symbol" Dong Hyun in the finals, capping off an 18-2 performance throughout the weekend.

Snute will be the first non-Korean player signed to TeamLiquid since July 2011, when American Zerg Shawn "Sheth" Simon joined the team. Most recently, TeamLiquid lost ex-Brood War star Yum "Sea" Bo Sung to retirement, citing a lack of passion for StarCraft II.
