Star Wars Villain General Grievous Was Almost Voiced By Gary Oldman-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 4:04 AM

Actor Gary Oldman has revealed he might have starred in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith as one of the main villains, General Grievous. Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Gizmodo), Oldman said he wasn't able to appear in the movie for a very boring reason.

Oldman said he recorded some voice lines for Grievous, but it all fell apart because of "union stuff and non-union stuff" pertaining to Revenge of the Sith filming in Australia. Oldman said he wanted to avoid being the "poster boy for breaking union roles," so he ultimately passed.

However, Oldman said he enjoyed working with writer-director George Lucas, saying he is "terrific" and that he has "no regrets" about the experience.

In the end, Lucasfilm's own Matthew Wood voiced Grievous in not only Revenge of the Sith but also The Clone Wars, along with some video games. And speaking of video games and voiceover roles, Oldman might have missed out on Grievous, but he famously portrayed the Call of Duty: Black Ops bad guy Viktor Reznov. Oldman, who won an Oscar for Darkest Hour, will also appear in the video game Squadron 42.
