While it is not unusual for major Hollywood movies to hire additional writers during production, it is usually behind-the-scenes and uncredited. However, the addition of Bourne writer Tony Gilroy to the upcoming Star Wars spinoff Rogue One was widely reported, and it has now been revealed how much he has earned.

　　According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy was initially hired for $200,000 a week, which is a standard rate for a top-tier writer on a big budget blockbuster. However, the lengthy reshoot process and his involvement with the film's post-production has seen his earnings climb to $5 million.

　　Gilroy joined the film in June, and was initially hired to assist with Rogue One's lengthy reshoots, which went on for several weeks and reportedly tackled a number of issues, including the film's ending. In August, it was reported that while director Gareth Edwards remained heavily involved, Gilroy was "empowered to take the lead" in the post-production process.

　　At the time, it was stressed that the two filmmakers were working together, with Gilroy performing a similar role during the making of Edwards' 2014 blockbuster Godzilla. Gilroy is now credited as co-writer on Rogue One, alongside Chris Weitz.

　　Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, and Ben Mendelsohn. It has been reported that the movie has netted the second-highest first day of pre-sales in US box office history, and box office estimates peg it at making $130 million or more for its December 16-18 opening weekend in the US. That would be the second-biggest December US opening ever, behind only 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
