EA Vancouver’s Star Wars game still has some sort of single-player narrative according to a newly-posted EA job listing. This should set some fans’ minds at ease somewhat, as there has been concern the game would eschew single-player altogether.
The job listing is for a Senior Online Designer, and the responsibilities include “working with the Creative Director, Game Director and Lead Writer to align all connected features with the single-player narrative and gameplay into a cohesive experience.” The job listing also confirms a focus on “live services” an in-game economy. You can check out a screenshot of the job listing, below.
EA Vancouver’s Star Wars project began life at Visceral Games under the leadership of Uncharted co-creator Amy Hennig. Unfortunately, late last year EA shuttered Visceral and transferred the project to their Vancouver team. According to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, Visceral’s game was simply too much of a linear, single-player-focused experience…
“As we kept reviewing the game, it continued to look like a much more linear game, which people don’t like as much today as they did five years ago or ten years ago. It was an economic decision at the end of the day.”
Needless to say, those comments didn’t go over well with those hoping for a more traditional solo Star Wars adventure. Thankfully, it sounds like single-player hasn’t been entirely left by wayside.
It will certainly be interesting to how EA Vancouver’s Star Wars game turns out. An earlier job listing revealed the game would have an open-world component, and this latest listing seems to hint at something like Destiny. EA has also said some of Visceral’s work will be reused for their new Star Wars project. Honestly, the game sounds like quite the hodgepodge at the moment.
What are your thoughts? Looking forward to EA Vancouver’s project at all? What kind of Star Wars game would you like to see them make?
