Star Trek PC/Console Story Driven Game in Development at Jumpgate’s GameXcite
Star Trek PC/Console Story Driven Game in Development at Jumpgate’s GameXcite-October 2024
Oct 26, 2024 8:32 PM

This week, the Swedish group Jumpgate AB announced that it had secured licensing to develop a PC/console game based on Paramount's Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager IPs. The development will be conducted at gameXcite, a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Hamburg, Germany.

Harald Riegler, CEO of Jumpgate AB, said in a statement:

We are excited that gameXcite is working on one of the largest Science Fiction IPs in the world, spanning numerous episodes, movies, and books and captivating audiences every day on TV and streaming platforms. Not only does our team have experience dealing with licensed properties through its work on the Asterix games – including the upcoming Asterix & Obelix Heroes – but consists of die-hard Star Trek fans who plan to deliver a deep, story-driven game that puts players into the captain’s chair.

Riegler's statement only mentions that it'll be a 'deep' and 'story-driven' game. However, this page on Jumpgate's official website also says that gameXcite is working on an upcoming 'rogue-lite premium title based on a popular Science Fiction IP'. It's likely to be a reference to this new Star Trek project.

It's been a pretty busy period for Trekkies who love gaming. Action/adventure game Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova launched late last year as an adaptation of the animated series, while Star Trek: Resurgence debuted in late May as a Telltale-like take on the IP. Resurgence earned a 7 out of 10 score in Wccftech's review penned by Chris Wray:

Despite the issues I have gone through, and I must admit they seem to make up a large chunk of the review, I can't help but like Star Trek: Resurgence. This is Trek storytelling, and I've always argued that little, if any, sci-fi does storytelling as good as Trek. It also helps that the gameplay has slightly branched out, and you get a little exploration here and there. Despite the issues, I recommend this game, particularly if you're a Trek fan, but it's more than welcoming to all.

In a few days, grand strategy fans will also be able to get their hands on Star Trek: Infinite, due on Thursday, October 12th for PC and Mac.
