Ten years is a couple generations (at least) in the video and computer games world, so it's odd that any agreement in this industry spans a decade in length.
But that's exactly the case of a deal inked between Activision and Viacom Consumer Products (the licensing division of Paramount Pictures), an agreement that will see Activision develop and publish titles based on the Star Trek franchise for the next decade. Under the terms of that agreement, Activision holds the exclusive worldwide publishing rights for multiple platforms to all Star Trek properties, once existing Star Trek publishing agreements have expired. The agreement also covers any new Star Trek features or series developed in the next ten years.
The first release to fall under the terms of the deal is scheduled to be an Activision title based on the upcoming Star Trek: Insurrection, a feature film due in theaters later this year.
