Activision has announced Star Trek Elite Force II, its upcoming sequel to the first-person action game Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force. Like its predecessor, Elite Force II will let players take control of an elite security force, but the new game is set in the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe aboard the Federation's flagship, the USS Enterprise.

　　"Star Trek Elite Force II is the continuation of one of the most highly regarded Star Trek games ever," said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president of Activision Worldwide Studios. "Incredible graphics, exotic environments, great characters, excellent teammate AI, and, of course, the richness of the Star Trek universe--this action game has it all."

　　In the Quake III-powered game, players will explore mysterious new worlds, battle against new and familiar enemies, and go on a series of dangerous missions. Missions will take place in the confines of spaceships and other interior areas, as well as in expansive alien landscapes and the void of space. In addition, the game will feature zero-gravity combat in a mission where players engage in battle on the hull of a starship.

　　Players will battle familiar foes such as the Borg, the Klingons, and the Romulans, as well as several new alien species. The game includes 13 different weapons and items such as the phaser, the compression rifle, the multifunction grenade launcher, the Romulan disruptor, the tetryon Gatling gun, the tricorder, and a number of new weapons.

　　In addition to the single-player mode, Elite Force II will have multiplayer modes including holomatch, capture the flag, and team holomatch. Elite Force II is in development at Ritual Entertainment. No official release date has been announced. We'll post more information about the game as it becomes available.
