Star Ocean: The Second Story R Will Run At 60 FPS on PC, PS5, 30 on Switch; New Footage Surfaces Online-October 2024
Oct 24, 2024 7:34 PM

Star Ocean: The Second Story R is launching on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Nintendo Switch, but those looking to experience the remake of one of the best JRPGs ever released at its best will have to avoid the Switch release, as it won't run as smoothly as it does on other platforms.

During Gamescom, ResetERA forums member dodo667418 received confirmation that the game will run at 60 FPS on PC and PlayStation 5 and only at 30 FPS on Nintendo Switch. Resolution wasn't confirmed for any of the console versions.

Additionally, new Star Ocean: The Second Story R off-screen footage was shared online, providing a new look at the remake's updated combat system, traversal, and more. With the removal of spell freeze, which interrupted the action whenever most magic spells were cast, combat looks considerably better. The removal of random encounters is set to improve the game's pacing considerably as well, as the encounter rate in the original was somewhat high.

It has never been a better time to be a fan of the series created by tri-Ace than the past few years. While Star Ocean: The Second Story R may end up being a better experience thanks to its iconic characters, the latest entry in the series, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, is a solid RPG and a much better game than most of its predecessors, as I highlighted in my review.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R launches on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on November 2nd worldwide.
