Last week, Sony opened preorders for the $500 PlayStation VR Launch Bundle, but if you're interested in only the device itself, you can now preorder it. Right on schedule, the $400 standalone unit is now available to preorder from retailers in the United States, including GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
For $400, you get the headset itself, the processor unit, headphones, and all the cables you need. By comparison, the $500 Launch Bundles comes with all of that, plus a PlayStation camera, two Move controllers, and the five-game PlayStation Worlds disc.
The standalone unit is currently unavailable through Amazon.
PlayStation VR launches in October, though a specific release date in the month has not been announced. The headset was originally intended to be released in the first half of 2016, but was delayed due to an increase in projected demand, Sony recently explained.
According to a recent report, Sony will announce a new, more powerful PlayStation 4 console before the October launch of PlayStation VR. This system may help PlayStation VR games look even better.
