TOKYO - Unverified rumors circulating around the Web last week stated that Square's baseball title for the PlayStation2 was in peril because of the game's delay. According to these rumors, Square's license to use certain baseball teams and players runs out on April 30, and it will then fall into Konami's hands. GameSpot News asked Square officials to address the rumor, and the and the company said that after the April 30 date Square will no longer hold the license. Square also stated, however, that it has worked out an agreement with Konami in which Square will sublicense the players and teams from Konami.
Additionally, Square officials informed us that the company intends to develop Gekikuukan Pro Baseball as a series on the PlayStation2 and that we can expect yearly installments of the franchise.
