Square planning Saga sequel on the PS2?-March 2024
Mar 1, 2025 1:04 PM

Various online sources have been reporting on a rumor regarding SquareSoft's possible plans to release a sequel in the Saga series for the PlayStation 2. The story actually originated in a feature in the latest issue of the Japanese weekly publication Famitsu, where the editors asked several game developers about possible sequels in the making.

When asked about a possible new game in the Saga series, Shinji Hashimoto, SquareSoft's senior vice president of software development and character licensing, replied, "Our development teams are tied up in the completion of both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XI, which we intend to release by the end of this fiscal year. After that, they should be available for future projects. We hope to talk more about that sometime during the summer season."

The Saga series first appeared on the Game Boy under the title Final Fantasy Legends in North America, and it was followed by three Romancing Saga titles on the Super Famicom that were not released in North America. The last two Saga Frontier games were later released on the North American PlayStation. On a related note, a fan art of Romancing Saga 4 that has been doing the rounds on the Internet was not released by SquareSoft. GameSpot will keep you posted on the latest developments.
