Square announced on Wednesday its latest PS2 title tentatively named Type-S. The racing-simulation game is being developed by Escape (a subsidiary of Square), a company that previously worked with Dream Factory on the Tobal and Ehrgeiz series. The game will feature a " driver's eye" camera angle; the player will be able to see the interior of the car, as well as the driver's hands on the steering wheel. In preparation, Square has already acquired licenses from Japanese manufacturers, including Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, Nissan, and Toyota to add those companies' cars to the upcoming game. Real racing tracks like the Suzuka and Tsukuba circuits in Japan will also be included as part of the game's course library.
Type-S for the Sony PlayStation2 is scheduled for a release sometime this spring in Japan. Even with the company's previously announced PS2 title The Bouncer, it is still not yet known what Square's PS2 launch title(s) will be. Hopefully, the Square Millennium event held on January 29 in Japan will reveal new information. GameSpot News will keep you posted.
