Spider-Man: No Way Home Has Now Grossed More Than Avatar In The US-November 2024
Nov 16, 2024 2:00 PM

After dominating the box office for the better part of its nine-week run, Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally out-earned James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar, Deadline reports. Sony has officially confirmed No Way Home's running total of $769.988 million, edging out Avatar's domestic box office take of $760.5 million.

The Spider-Man sequel managed to reach this figure in 60 days or around nine weeks, compared to a nine-month release for Avatar coupled with a re-release in 2010 that was worth an additional $10.7 million. Avatar is still the number one movie when it comes to the global box office, however, with an international total of $2.84 billion over No Way Home's current $1.8 billion take.

Now Playing: Spider-Man: No Way Home Stars Play WOULD YOU RATHER | Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon

The change in domestic box office rankings leaves Spider-Man: No Way Home the third highest-earning film domestically, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $936.6 million and Avengers: Endgame at $858.3 million. Spider-Man is unlikely to catch up to either of them: The Force Awakens took just 20 days to pass the $760 million threshold, and Endgame took 23 days.

As well as its box office success, No Way Home has been a hit with critics, boasting a 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's also one of the few MCU films to have achieved an A+ CinemaScore. While many believed No Way Home could be the second MCU film after Black Panther to receive a Best Picture nomination, the film only ended up with a single nomination for Best Visual Effects.
