Spider-Man Actor Reveals How Many Films He's Signed Up For-October 2024

The newest actor to play Spider-Man, Tom Holland, has revealed that he is signed up to play the web-slinger for three solo films and also make three appearances in other Marvel movies. He confirmed his contract deals to The Hollywood Reporter as part of the magazine's cover story on him.

Holland already played Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War and recently wrapped up production on Spider-Man: Homecoming. Pursuant to his contract, he'll play Spider-Man at least four more times.

Homecoming's sequels have not yet been announced and it's also unclear where Holland's next Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance will be. One possibility is in the next Avengers movie, 2018's Infinity War, but this is not confirmed.

"They give you options and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers," Holland said of his contract with Marvel. "I'm unclear as to which movies though. I do know I have three Spider-Man [appearances in other] movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They're very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other."

In another Hollywood Reporter story, 20-year-old singer/actress Zendaya responded to the controversy around her character, known only as "Michelle" at this point.

"People are going to react over anything. But nothing [about who she is playing] is fact. It's funny to watch the guessing game," she said. "But of course there's going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren't ready. I'm like, 'I don't know what America you live in, but from what I see when I walk outside my streets of New York right now, I see lots of diversity and I see the real world and it's beautiful, and that's what should be reflected and that's what is reflected so you're just going to have to get over it.'"

She also confirmed that Michelle is not romantically involved with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

In a third story from The Hollywood Reporter, Holland revealed the surprising way in which he found out that he got the part.

"I was in my bed scrolling through Instagram. It had been about a month since my audition. And Marvel just posted a photo saying go to our website and find out who the next Spider-Man is," he said. "I went on the Marvel website on my computer and there it was: The new Spider-Man is Tom Holland. I went ballistic, like absolutely nuts."

Holland also talked about how Homecoming's version of Spider-Man will be quite different than how the character was presented in past movies.

"You've seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier. Now it's time to see the kid," he said. "And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that's almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It's all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence."

Homecoming is set for release on July 7, 2017. It's directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and also stars Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr, Donald Glover, Tony Revolori, and Tyne Daly. In other news, it's been confirmed that the game's score will be composed by Michael Giacchino, who wrote the music for Star Wars: Rogue One and won an Oscar for Up. He also did the music for the first Call of Duty game.

Additionally, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that Michael Keaton will play Homecoming villain Vulture.

In Spider-Man gaming news, Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac is making a Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4, though it remains to be seen if it will be released alongside the movie next year.
