GameSpot has learned that Namco's highly anticipated Soul Calibur II will make its initial appearance at the Nintendo Space World this week. The arcade version of the game, which is running on Sony's PS2-compatible System 246 arcade board, will be shown in video form only. It will also be announced that the game will be released on the Nintendo GameCube. According to Namco sources, no announcements regarding a possible PlayStation 2 version of the game are planned at this time.
In terms of the game itself, sources have informed GameSpot that it is still quite early--with some collision detection issues that need to be resolved--but that in general it has an artistic style that is very similar to Soul Calibur's. The development team's primary goal is to create a fighting game that stays true to the look and feel of the Dreamcast game, and there are no major revisions planned for the sequel. GameSpot will have more on Soul Calibur II, including impressions and media, from Space World, which kicks off on Wednesday evening with Nintendo's press conference.
