Sony announced Thursday that in its first full month (September) of the new pricing scheme of PlayStation hardware (a US$129 MSRP), system sales grew by 97 percent over the previous month according to TRSTS numbers. According to Sony's announcement, the TRSTS reported that more than 385,000 PlayStations were sold during September, and a 66 percent share of the market in September, up eight percent.
According to Sony, PlayStation outsold its competitors by a 2-to-1 margin in major retail outlets, with some selling at a rate of 3-to-1.
