Sony PS4 State Of Play News Roundup: Everything Announced
Sony PS4 State Of Play News Roundup: Everything Announced-March 2024
Mar 15, 2025 5:34 AM

Sony's stream is now over, and despite lasting just over 10 minutes, this State of Play featured a fair number of announcements. The event started out with a look at the upcoming Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter World before diving into looks at some new and previously announced games. An asymmetrical online action game based on the Predator is coming from the developers of Friday the 13th: The Game, while we got a trailer and release date for MediEvil.

Most notable was the new trailer for Final Fantasy VII's PS4 remake. There had been some speculation that the game--which we've heard little from recently--would show up, and it capped off the presentation as we got to see some cutscenes and brief gameplay clips. We didn't get a release date or anything of the sort, but Sony did promise more would be shared next month, presumably during Square Enix's E3 press conference. Check out a roundup of news (and a replay of the event) below. Capcom subsequently held a stream for Monster Hunter World where we learned even more about the DLC expansion, including that a bundle with Iceborne and the base game is coming.

State Of Play News

Final Fantasy 7 remake trailer debutsMonster Hunter World's Iceborne release date confirmedPredator: Hunting Grounds revealed for PS4A new PS4 model is coming to celebrate the Days of Play eventMediEvil releases on October 25A new Tokyo Jungle-esque looking game named Away is coming to PS4 (and PC)Four-player co-op game Riverbond features characters from Shovel Knight, Bastion, and more is coming this summer

  The original story follows.

Sony's next State of Play livestream event is happening today, with a few different announcements of interest to PS4 owners planned. The brief presentation will only last about 10 minutes, and that time will give more details on the PS4 remake of MediEvil and an unannounced new game. The livestream event takes place later today, Thursday, May 9, at 3 PM PT; you can see the start time in various timezones below. You can also watch the event through the livestream embed below or on the PlayStation YouTube channel.

In giving word about this presentation, Sony set expectations for what's coming during it. Specifically, it made it clear one thing that won't be shown. Don't watch this stream for any new information about the next PlayStation--presumably to be named the PlayStation 5--because Sony has made it clear that's not what this brief event is about. Fortunately, we have already gotten a surprising amount of information about the system, given that its release is likely quite far off. Sony has shared specs and some of its vision for the PS5, which no one was expecting.

This is the second-ever State of Play, and Sony's approach to these announcement streams has been very similar to Nintendo Direct presentations. The first State of Play in March was a good deal longer, and included announcements or new glimpses of eight games. That included several PSVR reveals, including the announcement of Iron Man VR and No Man Sky's upcoming VR update.

Sony State of Play Stream Start Times

3 PM PT6 PM ET11 PM BST8 AM (Friday, May 10) AESTThese individual State of Play streams may be where we hear most of Sony's announcements this year, as the company has dropped out of E3. SIE Worldwide Studios head Shawn Layden explained that the company feels the event hasn't necessarily kept up with the changing needs of the industry.

Though it won't be at E3, though, it has already started sharing its plans for the next generation, making it the first company to the starting gate. Those plans include backwards compatibility with PS4 games and a re-commitment to support PSVR. Read up on everything we know about PS5.
