Sony PlayStation Network-ing PCs?
Sony PlayStation Network-ing PCs?-March 2024
Mar 19, 2025 3:57 AM

With its brand name established in just about every corner of the home electronics market, Sony is in a unique position to promote synergy between its various devices. An example of this could be seen shortly, because Sony plans to integrate its PlayStation Network downloadable media service into its VAIO line of PC hardware.

Cross Media Bar coming soon? Speaking with Laptop Magazine, Sony information technology products division senior vice president Mike Abary said the company is "absolutely" looking at integrating the movie and TV show services of PSN into PCs. When asked if the VAIO PSN offerings would also include games, Abary was less certain.

"That is a possibility but we are concentrated more on movies and TV content," Abary told Laptop. "We find casual gaming to be interesting for PCs and we are driving right now to establish our role in that area. We believe this segment of end user of causal gaming is growing we can address that marketplace in a way that is unique on VAIOs."

Currently, Sony's PlayStation Network has limited PC functionality. Using the company's Media Go software, gamers can purchase items from the PlayStation Store and transfer them to their PSP systems.
