Want to buy Xbox One hardware or physical software directly from Microsoft? You can do that. Or a Switch or games directly from Nintendo? Once again, no problem. Oddly though, this has not been an option for PlayStation fans. While you could of course buy digital game codes and content online from the PlayStation Store, physical products were only available from third-party retailers.
Well, that changes now, as Sony has just opened a new online store, where fans can buy hardware, controllers, boxed versions of games, PlayStation Plus membership cards, and more. So, why should you bother buying directly from the source? Well, Sony is offering a great shipping deal for one – as long as you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus you’re eligible for free 1-day express shipping on anything in the store. Not bad!
Sony is starting off with a limited selection of first-party titles, but promises to add more in the future. For now, the lineup includes:
Astro Bot: Rescue MissionBlood & TruthBloodborneDays GoneGod of War 3 RemasteredHorizon Zero DawnMarvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year EditionMLB The Show 19Quantic Dream CollectionRatchet & ClankThe Last of Us RemasteredUncharted 4: A Thief’s EndFrom now until the end of October, the new store is also offering the following deals:
PlayStation 4 plus a 12-month subscription of PS Plus for $339.99 USD (regularly $359.98 USD)PlayStation 4 Pro plus a 12-month subscription of PS Plus for $429.99 USD (regularly $459.98 USD)As of right now, the new PlayStation store only ships products to the US, but it will likely expand to other territories soon enough. What do you think? Will you be buying anything from the new store? That free 1-day shipping is certainly tempting – if Sony starts offering some slightly better deals, I might just make some purchases.
