Sony Is Cancelling Digital GT Sport Pre-Orders; Revised Pre-Order To Be Offered At The Earliest Opportunity
Sony Is Cancelling Digital GT Sport Pre-Orders; Revised Pre-Order To Be Offered At The Earliest Opportunity-September 2024
Sep 23, 2024 5:11 AM

It seems that Sony is cancelling digital pre-orders for Gran Turismo Sport (GT Sport) following the game’s recent delay.

GT Sport was officially delayed last week to further “perfect” the racer. Kazunori Yamauchi, founder of Polyphony Digital and Creator of Gran Turismo series, announced the news on the official Playstation blog:

“However, as we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we’ve already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title. We do not want to compromise the experience in any way”, Yamauchi wrote.

The PS4 exclusive racer was delayed into 2017 without providing an exact release date. Following the game’s announcement, several PSN users reported having received a message from Sony, stating that their digital GT Sport pre-orders have been cancelled. Digital pre-orders will be unavailable until a new release date has been set.

“Thank you for pre-ordering Gran Turismo Sport from PlayStation®Store. On 30th August 2016 we regrettably announced that the release of Gran Turismo Sport has been delayed until 2017. We do not have a new release date at this time. We have, therefore, decided to cancel your pre-order and refund your pre-order payment. This refund may take up to 7-10 days to be processed. Please keep a record of this message for future reference.

Once we have a new release date for Gran Turismo Sport we will offer a revised pre-order for it on the PlayStation®Store at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your custom and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

Publishers cancelling pre-orders due to a delay isn’t common in the gaming industry, and since a new release date hasn’t been revealed, we might well be looking at a longer than expected delay for GT Sport. As always we will keep you updated when we learn more on this matter.
