While the PlayStation 4 keeps selling strong, Sony believes that the Nintendo Switch can’t be ignored.

　　The PlayStation 4 has been selling amazingly well ever since its launch back in 2013, and according to Sony PlayStation’s Senior Vice President & Head of PlayStation Network, Eric Lempel, the company recently had its biggest Black Friday in PlayStation history and sold more consoles than they ever did.

　　“We had the biggest Black Friday in PlayStation history,” Lempel told CNBC. “We sold more consoles than we ever have in our 23-year history, and [PlayStation] Plus is a natural addition to that purchase.”

　　Another console that has been performing greatly is Nintendo’s new hybrid platform, the Nintendo Switch - in fact, the Switch has been outselling Sony’s PS4 in the US for several months now.

　　In a recent interview with Nikkei staff writer Takehiko Hama, Sony’s head of corporate planning, Kazuhiko Takeda, acknowledged the success of Nintendo’s latest platform, and pointed out that the company is working to get more customers paying continuously for software. “At our gaming business, sales of the PlayStation 4 are strong heading into the holidays”, Takeda said. “But we can't ignore the Nintendo Switch, which has also captured consumers' attention. Our business model involves selling both the game console and the software for it, so we're working to get more customers paying continuously for content, for example through paid subscription services."
