Nikkei Online reported on Friday that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) had officially announced that a defect was present on its PlayStation2 memory cards. There were about 340 complaints from customers regarding the memory card defects, citing such problems as a deletion of gameplay data and a malfunction of the DVD features. The company is currently working to fix the problems with its memory cards, and customers can ship back their memory cards or the PS2 hardware if necessary.
More than 12,300 phone calls were received by customer support regarding the PS2 over the past nine days in Japan. SCE, though, still denies that manufacturing has halted or that the memory cards have been recalled.
