Sons of Anarchy Mayans Spinoff Casts A Lead
Sons of Anarchy Mayans Spinoff Casts A Lead-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 7:34 AM

The Sons of Anarchy spinoff, Mayans MC, is moving forward. Entertainment Weekly reports that Edwards James Olmos (Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica, Dexter) will play a lead in the upcoming show, though we don't know who the character is.

According to the report, Mayans MC is set "in a post-Jax Teller world." The story will focus on EZ Reyes, who is a prospect in the Mayan MC group the operates on the California/Mexico border. EZ Reyes "struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves."

Olmos on DexterMayans MC, like Sons of Anarchy, aims to be a "dark, visceral family drama." So it's basically the same premise of Sons of Anarchy, but this time, the story is told from the perspective of a Latino character.

The show gets its name from the Mayans Motorcycle Club. That group played a major part in the original series; Emilio Rivera played the Mayans' leader, Marcus Alvarez, though we don't know if he's coming back for the spinoff.

Mayans MC has received a pilot order from network FX; it will begin shooting next month. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is writing the show alongside Elgin James, who was previously in a gang and spent time in federal prison.

"I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice," Sutter said about working with James. "Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice."
