With his work on the Sons of Anarchy franchise complete, following his firing by FX in 2019, Kurt Sutter has set his sights on Netflix. The Sons of Anarchy creator and Mayans M.C. co-creator is teaming with Blumhouse for a movie that's described as a drama but certainly sounds like a horror film.
According to a tweet from Netflix, This Beast is set in an "18th century English village besieged by a mysterious and elusive beast." A longer description reads, "Dozens of innocents are slaughtered and the mayhem is driven to puritanical heights by religious fanaticism. The impossible task of killing the beast falls to a lowly trapper who promises he can stop the carnage. But for him this hunt is not a professional mission, it's a deeply personal one. The idea was inspired by The Beast of Gévaudan, a true story about a mysterious beast that terrorized a French village in the 1760s."

Now Playing: Mayans MC: How Season 3 Ties Into Sons Of Anarchy
The Beast of Gévaudan story dates back to a French province in the 1700s. According to historical documents, over 100 people were reported to have been killed between 1764 and 1767, which many of the victims having been partially eaten. It's believed the beast, itself, was wolves.
That certainly doesn't sound like a run-of-the-mill drama. In a statement, Sutter said, "Bringing my disturbing, familial story sensibility into the Blumhouse world just seemed like something that had to happen. And This Beast is the perfect project for that marriage. And Netflix is the perfect venue for that bloody ceremony."

The film will be written, directed, and produced by Sutter, who is making his feature directorial debut. Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse, will also serve as producer, along with Paper Pictures' Carla Hacken. Thus far, no other information--cast, release date, etc.--has been announced for This Beast.
Meanwhile, Season 3 of Mayans MC--the first without the former co-showrunner involved--will premiere on March 16 on FX.
