Electronic Arts announced on Tuesday that more than one million copies of SimCity 3000 have shipped worldwide. The game, launched in late January, has remained on the PC Data top-selling games listings for some time and remained the number one best-selling title in the US in February and March. SC 3000 has also remained one of the best-selling titles in European and Asian markets as well.
For Mac gamers waiting for an updated version of SimCity for their computers, a Mac version is due this summer for US$49.95. Minimum requirements for running the game include a 180MHz PowerPC with 32MB of RAM.
Maxis, the makers of SimCity, also announced the latest addition to its online offerings. The City Exchange lets users upload their sprawling metropolises for others to download. And once the files are uploaded, the Exchange rates the city on its pollution, crime, and traffic. Since its opening earlier this month more than 2,500 cities have already been uploaded. The site also offers several downloadable structures for enhancing SimCity. The first landmark building pack with San Francisco landmarks has already been downloaded by more than 200,000 players.
The long-promised SimCity 3000 Building Architect Tool, which lets users create their own buildings, will be released on the official SimCity site on June 16.
