SegaSoft Networks announced the HEAT Collegiate Gaming League, which it is calling "the largest free online multiplayer gaming league... for college and university students in the United States and Canada."
College students will be able to engage in free rounds of Quake II and other games for prizes donated by Creative Labs and other partners when competition in the nascent league begins next month.
SegaSoft plans on marketing the league to 415 universities and colleges by distributing 400,000 free sign-up disks at college bookstores and other locations on and off campus. The disks will feature demo versions of SegaSoft's Plane Crazy and Net Fighter games.
