Several PlayStation Games on Steam Had Their Price Increased in Certain Regions-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 5:30 PM

It seems like PlayStation titles on Steam have seen a price increase. SteamDB data shows that PlayStation games that were released on Steam have increased in price in various regions other than North America. As far as we know, this price increase has affected all the titles that are published by PlayStation on Steam, including God of War, Returnal, Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel's Spider-Man, among others.

The price increases are reportedly done in regions such as China, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Japan, and South Korea. Some of the increases have gone as far up as 26%. This price hike does not affect other regions, such as Mexico, the United States, and Australia. As such, users from these regions will not have much to worry about.

Canada can be one of the worst cases in terms of the price increases for PlayStation games on Steam. The Maple Leaf country has seen increases from $59.99-69.99 on PlayStation games to $64.99-79.99. Other regions that have seen a dramatic price increase include the following:

Argentina: 4199-5999 Pesos to 8499-9999 PesosChile: 32000-39500 CLP to 35000-42000 CLPChina: 279-379 RMB to 345-414 RMBColombia: 159000-194000 Pesos to 184000-219000 PesosJapan: 4900-6490 Yen to 6490-7590 YenSouth Korea: 45880-58800 Won to 52800-62800 WonSome users might point out a quote from Dr. Serkan Toto made earlier this year as the analyst predicted that this would happen in a statement that Gamesindustry.biz reported on. According to his prediction, not all studios have hiked prices to keep up with the rise of production and other costs in game development so far. Because of this, players were likely to see prices go up across the board in 2023. This would also affect hardware and subscriptions as well.

Neither PlayStation nor Sony had announced the increase in price on Steam games across select regions, unlike the time they did so when their consoles' prices spiked. Despite this, PlayStation sales have increased, with the PS5 console reportedly surpassing PS4 sales on a “time-aligned basis.” That means Sony has sold more PS5s in the console’s first 29 months than they sold PS4s in its first 29 months.
