Sega seeking Electronic Arts cash
Sega seeking Electronic Arts cash-January 2024
Jan 3, 2025 8:52 PM

The Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun has reported some new developments on the Sega's financial future in its Saturday-morning edition. The word from Japan is that Sega is in negotiations with Electronic Arts. The details obviously aren't set in stone at this point, but the deal would have EA provide a cash infusion for Sega and Sammy's newly formed company and possibly buy out CSK Corporation's 22 percent share in Sega. As a result, EA would have access to Sega's experience on the distribution and development fronts. The report goes on to speculate that Electronic Arts could conceivably step into merger talks with Sega if the planned merger with Sammy stalls or fails to pass a shareholder vote.

This information comes amid reports from Reuters that both Electronic Arts and Microsoft are vying to purchase part or all of Sega, as well as news that Sega's San Francisco-based operation will reorganize and see 20 percent layoffs.
